Introduction
Thrive supports learners whose special educational needs and disabilities create barriers to accessing mainstream education.
We work across the four broad areas of need:
Communication and Interaction
Cognition and Learning
Social, Emotional and Mental Health
Sensory and Physical
Learners may have one or several areas of need. We look at the whole learner rather than simply the diagnostic label.
EHCP-led planning
Where a learner has an EHCP, the EHCP is central to our planning.
We use identified outcomes, provision and needs to establish a baseline, create individual targets, plan teaching and support, collect evidence and review progress.
The EHCP should not sit separately from the learner’s education. It informs what we teach, how we teach it and what progress we need to demonstrate.
How we adapt provision
We may adapt the environment, timetable, communication, task length, level of adult prompting, sensory opportunities, teaching methods, assessment and transition arrangements depending on the learner’s needs.
Our aim is to remove unnecessary barriers while maintaining appropriate expectations for progress.
Family and professional partnership
We work with families, schools, Local Authorities and relevant professionals to understand needs, share progress and plan next steps.
Where specialist advice is available, we use it to strengthen the learner’s provision and ensure that strategies are understood and applied consistently.
