Introduction

Every learner arrives at Thrive with a story.

Some have experienced repeated difficulties in mainstream education. Some have lost confidence in their ability to learn. Others need a smaller environment, greater adult support, practical learning or a different approach to communication and regulation.

We do not believe that every learner should be expected to fit the same educational model.

Our approach is built around six stages.

1. Understand

We review the referral, EHCP and available information and listen to the learner and family. We identify strengths, barriers, interests, communication needs, sensory needs, aspirations and previous experiences of education.

2. Connect

A trusted relationship is established with consistent adults. We create predictable routines, clear expectations and an environment in which the learner knows who to go to for support.

3. Engage

We use achievable, motivating and purposeful learning to create early success. Interests and strengths are used as a route into broader learning rather than as a replacement for learning.

4. Develop

As confidence grows, we increase academic challenge, learning tolerance, independence, communication, emotional regulation and positive peer interaction.

5. Achieve

We establish clear starting points and monitor attendance, engagement, academic progress, personal development and EHCP outcomes. Evidence is used to identify what is working and what needs to change.

6. Progress

From the beginning, we consider what comes next. We prepare learners for their next education setting, college, training, employment or greater independence and work with the receiving setting where appropriate.
